Like a whole little person

Alex has gone and gotten herself accepted to the high school she's wanted to go to since like fifth grade. This is like the biggest thing she's ever done. She has always just tagged along with me or Danielle and done whatever we're doing. She just holds your hand and goes wherever you're going. Alex has been known to hold our hands even at home. During my first week of college I kept putting my hand out waiting for Alex to slide her hand into mine, even though we've never been in the same school.

Alex filled out scholarship applications herself to get into a dance school that would prepare her for her auditions. She put up with angry Russian teachers who favored the Russian girls who whispered mean things about her. Alex used her own babysitting money to buy a new leotard when she grew out of her old one, and carefully washed it in the sink each night after dance classes.

I am so totally proud of Alex. Danielle and I have teased her a lot that she can't have a cell phone when she starts high school for various reasons. She didn't make her bed, her ponytail was sloppy, we didn't like her shirt, whatever. But she is so totally getting one.

FAME? My husband wanted to go there for music but his Asian parents made him go to Stuy instead. That is awesome!! Very, very well done on your sister's part. Definitely worth a cell phone.

Sam, I don't know you but I found your blog through Snickollet and have been reading through your archives nonstop. You are fing amazing and inspiring and all of that. I've wanted to comment on so many posts, but then I kept thinking it was dumb because you wrote them so long ago. But I just had to stop and comment on this one, it made me feel so happy. Congrats to Alex!
