What's that?

There's some sort of winter sports competition thing going on? Oh, I had no idea. Today school is closed and work is closed. I did five tutorings today. My throat hurt by the time I got home. Danielle has been really good about being serious with teaching me math and it turns out she's a good teacher. Yesterday I took her to Dylan's Candy as a thank you, and we wound up staying there talking for three hours. It was fun. Although Dani dropped the bomb that she wants to go to NYIT for college. I guess she's been thinking about this for a long time because Danielle also told me she wants to go to their summer jump start program after she gets in. I am trying not to freak out but am kind of overwhelmed at the idea of having to get someone else into college while getting through my own life. At least I will be done by the time Alex starts so we won't have to juggle all three of us at the same time.

Will Danielle be happy with the level of academics there?

Beats me. Are you saying the level of academics will be too hard or too easy? I know she wants to stay in the city, and it's really best for us financially if she goes to a CUNY school.

I didn't know anything about the school so I followed your links. The requirements sound much less advanced than what she's already doing in her high school, hence my question. But maybe those are only minimum requirements and do not reflect the level of academics overall.

I know the CUNY schools are excellent. And they have programs for many different academic levels. But NYIT isn't a CUNY school. That's City Tech, right?

As far as private schools go, the Polytechnic Institute sounds fantastic, much better than NYIT. Maybe higher stress, though.

What is it about NYIT specifically that interests Danielle?

No idea why she likes it. Sometimes you just click with a school - something about it just feels right.

Going to a CUNY school is free which is why it's a trillion times easier if she picks one of them. Poly is crazy expensive.

I'm not trying to convince you all not to go with a CUNY. CUNY is a smart move. You don't have to convince me.

But since Danielle is considering NYIT, a private school, I thought I would mention another private school that seemed much better for her.

Over the weekend Dani considered a Jonas brother, you know? She's still only in 10th, so it's not anywhere near time to start applying. I totally see your point in throwing out another private to consider.

Hahaha, okay. And thanks.

Wait, CUNY is free? I thought it hadn't been free for many years.

CUNY isn't free.

Pretty sure CUNY is free for the girls since their mom died in 9/11. Isn't that why Sam chose a CUNY school?

The scholarships are separate. Sam had to apply for many scholarships to cover the cost of her CUNY school.

Getting Danielle into college will not be all up to you. It won't be the same as you getting yourself into college. Danielle will have an easier time than you did because she'll have you helping her, but Danielle will do the bulk of the work.
