Future lunches
Thanks for all the ideas. It seems like I'm going to have to cough up money in some way, either for a bag or a thermos thing or something. I tried freezing yogurt a few times in high school and it didn't defrost well plus changed the taste. For now we can't buy anything new because I am so scared about my diner job and all the money I had to lay out for books and having enough. Danielle found me a plastic box she used to use for colored pencils so I cleaned that out and will put fruit and stuff in there so at least it won't smush.

BEFORE YOU BUY BOOKS: they are the worst rip off. First, go to your local library and see if they have what you need. I say local and not school because the school will have them, but they will be on reserve and that means you can only check them out for a few hours and can't leave the library with them. Your local library, you can just keep renewing for the term. If you can't find them there, then buy them on Amazon. Don't buy the damn things from the bookstore and for God's sake- don't sell them back to them. Sell them on Amazon or put fliers up around school. You'll get more money that way.
Try freezing a bottle of water and putting it in with the lunch. It may help keep the yogurt cold and by the time
you are ready for lunch, will be pretty well turned to water, not ice. Drink a few sips before freezing to keep it from bulging out too much.
Oh yeah, agreed with Amber. I spent hundred on books each term, because I was too lazy to go to the library. Petty me! I know wayyyyy better now. The money is better spent on quality food. Or perhaps one or two new clothing items. Seriously.
Oh, and by the way, luckily our library actually allows us to borrow books. For as long as 5 weeks :)

I used to take a yogurt in a plain brown bag and it was fine. YMMV.
And when borrowing from a library won't work, for books that you find you do need to buy, between all the used book stores in the city and all the students in the city selling off their old books and all the on-line sources, you should be able to get good deals. Of course just going to the bookstore is easiest and everything else takes up lots of time.
Yes, what classes are you taking?
Canvas can be insulating. If you have a small canvas bag or some thick canvas you can use to make a small lunchbag, that might work. Or maybe you have a larger canvas totebag and can roll the excess bag around the contents.
If you can find a store near school that sells yogurts at the same price you pay for them when you do your grocery shopping, then you can just buy them when you need them during your school day instead of during your weekly shopping. Of course taking a portion from a quart container from home is still cheaper.
