Not Covered In the Books At the Library

You're not supposed to have sex until you're ready, and you're magically supposed to somehow just know when you're ready. If you get an STD or pregnant, then you know you weren't ready, but then it's too late. What does that say about all the adults getting accidentally pregnant then? I'm just saying.

Hoo boy. One of the things I love about our church (Unitarian Universalist) is OWL - Our Whole Lives. It's sex ed you don't get ANYWHERE else. Not in school. Not in mainstream churches. Nowhere. It's one of the big reasons I attend - for my kids.

From the OWL website:
"Sexuality includes physical, ethical, social, spiritual, psychological, and emotional dimensions"

Getting an STD or pregnant doesn't mean you were ready or not ready, emotionally. It means you weren't careful and didn't use protection. Same answer for adults getting accidentally pregnant. My youngest, Emma, was an "accident". In our case, we were glad to have here because we were economically able to support her and had plenty of love and support to give her.

There are some interesting sex ed guidelines here. OWL is based on them.

Sam, I wouldn't try to proselytze for my church. It's not my style and it's not our style. But if you're interested in a copy of the OWL curriculum for teens, I will send you one. You know how to get a hold of me. It's pretty enlightening.
