I'm torn. Usually when I hear about something I know right away where I stand. Abortion? All for it. Death penalty? If I had more faith in the judicial system, I'd be all for it. Gun control? All for it. But I'm not sure about Barry Tessler.
This kid from Staten Island took the same high school entrance exam Danielle took a few weeks ago. He couldn't finish his test because other kids were being noisy and distracting and the proctor couldn't / didn't control them.
This is retarded. Any kid that made noise (aside from sneezing or something) should have been kicked out right away. Dani thinks after one warning, but I say no, because everyone knows to say quiet during a test and anyway, they shouldn't need to be personally told to be quiet - every proctor reminds kids to be quiet and not look at other people's scantrons during tests, so that's their one warning.
Anyway, I'm thinking I might be on this kid Barry's side. Even though he looks like he'll be getting beat up. Guess I'm a sucker for the underdog today. But I just know how different taking a test in track 3 classes can be from taking them in a regular class. Kids *are* loud and annoying if they don't care about their grade, and they won't be quiet for other kids who do care about their grades, even if those kids are their friends.
I'm bummed about the article in the NY Post, where it says Barry bombed the test. Scores aren't out yet, so he can't possibly know if he bombed or not. Also, I think it's rude that they called him fragile. Just because he looks like a total geek and he cried ... well, that does make him fragile. But he's a kid, and they're a powerful newspaper distributed to like millions maybe, of people. It can't do anything helpful to call him fragile.

WOWW ! that is not fair. ii go to techh and ii know this kid. agreeing withh a previous comment.. he DID use his dad. everyone has hopes and dreams.. everyone tries to achieve them... but it doesnt mean that your DEFINITELY going to get it. if he REALLY wanted to get into tech and he REALLY TRULY WITH ALL HIS HEART wanted to pass... he shouldve just zoned the peopLe out and concentrated more on his test than what the people around him were doing. i took the test and sure.. some peopLe were taLking but ii zoned them out and ii made it to tech. it doesnt matter how much you want it so BAD and how much you STUDIED ! it matters how much effort you put into it and how weLL you do on the test. just knowing that a person that did reaLLy weLL on the test and got a passing grade of 505 and got KICKED OUTTA THEIR SPOT because this kid sued is reaLLy not fair. im sorry but its not.
i go to school with barry too and there is no reason to feel sorry for him. the ones who deserved to get in did and he was just upset that he wasn't smart enough. these are just excuses because i know other people who were in the same room with him and they got in without the lawsuits. this is so not fair someone lost their spot because this kid is a sore loser.NOT FAIR AT ALL!

LP you obviously know the kid because you know he gets/got abused. It's because he doesn't stick up for himself along with the fact that he is also a stuck-up prick. At a JSA (Junior Statesmen of America) debate, he continuously argued and was just an overall ass when he was speaker. Also, he doesn't socialize with anyone and barely speaks, so wherever he would have gone he would get abused. You can't avoid these things if you're like him.
Also, we have the utmost right to complain about him slowing down his class' education. This is one of the best high schools in the nation and therefore one person should not be dragging back the rest. I am not sure about if he really got 2 million dollars or a 200 on the test as I haven't seen concrete proof of them, but the fact remains that he just cannot compete with the intellectual superiors at this school. Honestly, I do really feel bad for him because a few of my friends mess around with him every once in a while, but instead of telling them to stop, he just screams f*ck you and runs away.
So don't go running around calling us "dooshbags" if Barry is getting picked on and getting called slow, because it is the truth.

I actually gave a shit about this kid when I first got in. I was probably the first to know his name. I felt bad for him cause I met him like the 2nd day of school and he was sitting at my lunch table. He seemed like just a socially deprived kid. But then comes the time when he starts ignoring you no matter how nice you try to be. He tries too hard and he fails. Walking around the lunch room. There's too many kids in this school now after the SHSAT was employed who are completely stupid and got in. If you were in special education, why should you be able to be in a school that required a 95+ average in the past. His excuse was nothing but a desperate cry for help. Guess what buddy, you don't make it in, you try again in 10th grade. You don't make it in again, well then be happy where you at cause it's gonna be hell. I heard he retook the test for Stuy. I'm glad he gets the shit he get. Tech lost funding last year cause of this bull. You know what BOE? Just give him a 700 on the test. Don't even grade it. i am another student at tech and i am incredibly pissed off at barry. true barry is very small and fragile.this is no excuse for his insubordination in class. he does not take out his binder in my russian class 2nd term and he assaulted me with his backpack. This kid is in my school, and I dislike him greatly. I know he has some sort of mental disability, but that does not grant him the right to threaten to stab students. This is my second year in Tech, and I wish he would just leave.

From my experiences of almost 11 years of public schooling I've come to the conclusion that kids are mean for a multitude of reasons, sometimes to compensate for their own problems, sometimes to be funny or just out of pure envy. Barry seems to be victimized by people in general and has therefore given up hope in human kindness. If anyone would actually have treated Barry like a normal person and got to know him instead of pitying him, or constantly treating him like crap, maybe he wouldn't be mentally unstable. Even at Tech, a relatively accepting school he still gets this crap. Well I for one am glad that he got in so he doesn't have to go to Curtis or New Dorp, because only God knows how he would have done there.
I did fine on my test last year. I didn't cry. And I'm the kind of loud annoying kid who doesn't care about his grades. It I respect others. Anyway, my final judgment: this kids a bitch. I've had many shortcomings in my life, and I don't have money to buy my way. I work, and anyone else who works deserves recognition by going to these kinds of schools. Kids like make me happy to say I'm poor. Why? Because no one can ever accuse me of not earning what I have.
