People are already discussing their graduation presents. So far I haven't heard anyone say they're getting boob implants. Mostly the kids who don't have an iPhone are aiming for that. The ones who already have one are aiming for a big trip somewhere.
People are getting excited and already buying stuff for their dorms even though only early decision acceptances have gone out. One girl told me her parents rented extra storage space for all her college stuff.
I don't belong here. Not with these people. I feel numb when people get all excited about college. Some friends aren't going of course. They are excited anyway. To rent a house on the Jersey Shore for the summer. Or to move to Miami. Nobody's goal is to move to Brooklyn with their dumb little sisters. To spread their mother's stuff out all over the house.
No joke, I heard two girls talking about how they already told their mothers they will only call home once a week after they've moved to college. I can't even ... I want to talk to her fifty times each day.

Sam you have a very unique perspective unfortunately. I remember the people from HS, like the ones you speak of, I can say with a high level of accuracy that the majority of them were shallow, and ended up not very happy.
Hang in there girl...I think you're ability to find the joy in the act of spreading around your, your sisters and your Mother's things will be quite empowering. You're future is bright!
lots of love,

I like your goal best. Your set of plans is the most exciting of all. Really!
You may not have your mother any more, but you have more family in just your sisters than many of those kids will have. And the successes you have over your struggles now show just how much you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.
You have a lot of "mother" friends here who admire what all you have achieved... so I'm sure that you know your own mother would too.
I remember kids in high school who would fly from Cincinnati (where I grew up) to NYC to get their school shopping done. Or who went skiing in Colorado for Christmas break. It was such a foreign world.
I love how the previous commenter put it.
Your goals are so much bigger than your friends'. Creating a stable life for the people you love is a HUGE task and you're already doing that.
