My throat started hurting when I got to work. Headache that won't quit. Josh suggested that despite how much I like my hostess job maybe going from inside to outside back and forth is not the best idea for my health. Guess the freezing cold to blasting heat isn't good.
At work I ate a toasted english muffin with jelly on it for dinner. Then I took half a melon home and we cut it up and Dani wanted to eat it as dessert but I talked her into saving it for breakfast.
Dani wants me to get a job at Old Navy for the discount. I am thinking about it for after we start college. The free food is more important than discounted clothes.
Tomorrow there is a huge test in government. I barely spell the word right so it's not looking good for a decent grade on the test. Hopefully there are more multiple choice and less essay questions.
After school I have to buy eggs. We haven't had any since the week before last and Alex asks for eggs each day. I don't have a coupon. You can't steal eggs - they're too big and too breakable.

Had a sitter that worked at Old Navy said it was horrid and not worth the discount, I'd go for the food too.
Hope you all can get healthy, spring is just around the corner, maybe that will help:)
Good luck on the test, wasn't my strongest subject either.
I didn't realize your hostess job entails your being outside part of the time. Can you explain more about that?
Josh and you are definitely on to something. At the least, such action might in fact be affecting your throat. This might sound silly, but keeping your neck wrapped can help. In addition to making sure you wear a warm winter scarf whenever outside for longer periods, wearing a silk or cotton scarf -- you know, the kind worn as an accessory, not necessarily the dressy kind but just plain for every day -- tightly wrapped around your neck, making sure to cover the back of your neck well, can really help avoid trouble, especially when it is windy. Do you have anything like that? I wish I could explain it better. Or maybe a bandanna? Something plain that you take with you and wear just for your job, you know? Hmm, or turtlenecks. Seriously, keeping your neck well wrapped especially in back can help!
I was scared you were going to say your aunt ate the melon before you and your sisters could have it for breakfast!
I would definitely stick with the free-food job; as you say, it is much more important. I'm just sorry the diner food is -- I assume -- not the healthful and organic kind you all understandably prefer. By the way, if you eat the diner food, why didn't you eat the summer breakfast program food? Maybe when Alex is old enough to work, she could get a job at Whole Foods.
For clothing discounts, once you are in college, apply VERY EARLY for a part-time position during your semester break. The stores need extra help before and after Christmas, you will have much more time off during that period in college than you do now in high school, you will be able to keep your diner job and just work a bit at a clothing store. Find out in advance what the employee discounts are at various stores so you can check out which places will have the best prices once the employee discounts and the prices are combined.
If you want discounts throughout the year, you can buy gift cards using your discount during your short stint working at the store, and then you use the gift cards throughout the year. You'd need to plan ahead, probably budgeting that the money earned from that job will all go to clothing for the next year and not count on it for anything else. This can be risky, though, as gift cards these days come with all sorts of fees and expiration dates and restrictions, and also can be lost.
Also, once you are in college, you might have opportunities for other jobs. Some might interest you with respect to your intended field, whatever that turns out to be, which might set you up to be better off in the future, but of course you'll need to weight that against earning your family money for the here and now and, yeah, sticking with the free food is good. Also, it really sounds like working at the diner as a long-term employee is good for you, the people there knowing you and caring about you and taking care of you and your sisters -- a fostered relationship you wouldn't get jumping from job to job. Still, you could work a work-study job a few hours a week at school in addition, perhaps. Some work-study jobs at the school might pay less, but you might also have less of a tax liability for them.
Have you been doing your taxes? Have you gotten refunds? What about Dani? You'll need your tax return for financial aid anyway.
I have to pronounce "government" in my head as "govern" and then "ment" in order to spell it correctly. Good luck on your exam!
