One Person, Two Jobs

I went back with scheduling questions and Arnie said he'd like to do one or two afternoons a week and both weekend mornings for now. Then in the summer if that works out well (I think he meant if they think I do a good job and I like working there) he wants me to work like grownup job hours full time. I thought there was some sort of mortgage crisis thing happening but guess not since he said they're very busy.

So I said yes. I can still work at the diner both now AND in the summer. I can just work during the day at the office job and then go to the diner for the dinner rush. This will be way better than nannying because it will be air-conditioned. I gave Josh's mom a thank you card for introducing us and let her know that it got me a job for the summer. Um, she sent me a congratulations card with a $300 gift card to the Gap. So then I had to send her ANOTHER thank you card.

I am still shaking. I carried the card around for two days. I asked Josh if it was an accident and maybe she meant for it to be $30, but he said no, that she was going to make it more. Josh told me he swore to his mom I would find plenty of nice clothes for that much. He is wrong. It is too much money. I can't buy that much clothing. Freaking out.

Aww, I'm very happy to hear that she gave you that gift card. You will definitely find plenty of office clothes with the card. I'm glad to hear that his mom is helping you out with this job. It seems like it will be a job where you will acquire many skills. Good luck :-)

That's so great! Now you can choose to get exactly what you need.

You don't have to spend the whole gift card now, right? So get some items now, and some later, when you figure out more of what you need, are working more days at the office, and after the change of season.

It's so nice that this amount might be more than enough to get what you need, that you might be able to get some extra things beyond basic need, like a dress in addition to interchangeable skirts and tops.

Does the Gap also sell things like tights and shoes?

For the summer, when you will be wearing things like a cotton skirt and short-sleeved blouse or a summer dress, you might want a cardigan sweater, for when the AC at the office is too much or for when it gets chilly after work. It's hard to layer in dressy clothing, but a cardigan, which should go on sale soon, could help.

Also, a plain white blouse can seem different the next day if paired with a simple decorative scarf. Oh! Didn't you need a plain neck scarf to protect your throat at the diner?

On your first day of the new job, see if you can get someone to take a photo of you in your new business attire, and give Josh's mom a print of the photo. That would be a great way to say thank you, and she obviously likes you a lot and would, I think, like to be able to display a photo of you.

Congrats on the job!

Office attire can get expensive. His mom sounds wonderful! I'm sure she knew you'd make good use of the gift card.
