The aftermath of my life after 9/11, when half my family died. How I am struggling to come back to the self my mother used to love and be proud of while still letting myself grow.

Bloody dinner
I sliced my hand open tonight while I was cutting veggies for dinner. Bright red blood poured out of my hand, and the water running off my fingers and down the drain was very pink.
All the dinner preparations came to a screeching halt while I leaned against the kitchen sink with my hand under cold water. To be honest it didn't hurt that much, but it was scary to watch that much blood come out. Every time I moved my hand away from the water, more blood would gush out.
At some point, my hand kind of went numb and my mind started drifting. I realized this was the first time in a long time that I was only doing one thing and thinking about that same thing. Usually everything is a big rush. While at school, thinking about home. While at work, thinking about school.
Why don't we own any bandaids? When the bleeding finally stopped I wrapped wet paper towel around my cut and finished prepping dinner for the oven. Then I called Danielle and asked her to bring home bandages and antibiotic ointment.
Now that I'm all done bleeding, now it hurts. I asked Dani to wash my hair for me because I think that would hurt even worse. So she washed my hair in the sink and then gave me french braid pigtails.

:( Poor Sam.
Hope your hand feels better soon, it's such a pain to cut your hand because you need them all the time.
I quite like seeing my own blood come out...it's such a lovely colour!
It sounds like you need stitches?
I cut my fingers WAY too frequently. I've had stitches on my hands four times...
Danielle said unless it was pumping out blood in time with my heartbeat, I don't need stitches. It took about 15 or 20 minutes for the bleeding to stop completely.
If it's pumping blood in time to your heartbeat, I thought that meant you'd hit an artery? If the wound continues to seep through bandages, and won't stop bleeding, that's the stitches sign.
I'm glad it wasn't that bad.
