More money!

Even though school doesn't start until after Labor Day (well, the week before for me, but for public high school it's after Labor Day), it seems like people are already worrying about it now. Four different people have called me to tutor before school starts. Of course everyone wants it during the day while I'm at work which I can't do, so we're trying to sort out evenings and weekends. It's amazing how paranoid parents are that the schools they pick for their kids can't teach them well enough and they need extra help.

But this is good. I think I need a higher budget for my dress anyway (okay that's what Josh thinks, but I'm thinking about agreeing with him).

You know what else I think? I think Becca and Jackie dumped me. Becca's been mia all summer and Jackie and were kind of friendly in June and July but now she's not on vacation or anything and just stopped talking to me.

You can be very proud that you are in such demand, that you are respected for your skills as a tutor! And of course that is good news for your livelihood.

Of course everyone wants it during the day while I'm at work which I can't do, so we're trying to sort out evenings and weekends.

Please just be careful, the chance for more income is great, but there's the stress level and getting enough downtime for yourself and enough sleep to think about.

Now that you have a year of tutoring experience, have established a great reputation, and are to begin your second year of college, you can probably increase your rates a little. It would have to wait a little, though, if you've already quoted your current prices to the new clients.

None of yesterday's suggestions for a suitable dress within your budget panned out? Well then, this influx of additional cash will come at just the right time. And you were just talking over the weekend about having money to be able to use for fun things, too.

Sorry about Becca and Jackie. Don't give up hope just yet. You never know what's going on with them. Perhaps try initiating one more time with each, specifically inviting to a movie or over for dinner. If that yields nothing leave the ball in their respective courts, but realize they might come back to you as long as they feel welcome to do so.

What happened to that guy friend who came over last summer when you were at Josh's parents? How about those friends you made in high school when you moved up into the smarty classes?

Have you tried making friends with that girlfriend of Josh's friend? Have you had any luck finding old Brooklyn friends, either in person or online?

Maybe your household can have a small party towards the end of the summer.

I didn't think of raising my tutoring rate and already said yes when they asked if it was $20. :(

Rory? He's probably around somewhere, I don't know. We haven't talked since college started.

Heather and Makesha? Dunno. They probably went to away schools. Josh's girl friend who came to visit? She lives far away in another state.

I found a dress at the Gap that I really like a lot! It's $70. Found a few at Old Navy that might work and they are only $30 so I may go try them on and see which one is best. Everything I looked at online yesterday was either too short/slutty (which, don't get me wrong - that's great for going out, just not for work) or too old lady-ish. I need something in between.

Your clients are getting a great deal! Maybe plan to quote an increased rate to clients who are new or return after Labor day, and if these summer clients stay on, you can at that point let them know you've raised your rate with the start of the school year. Or are they already not just summer clients?

Why not invite Rory over for dinner?

Even if Heather and Makesha go away for school, they might be home for the summer. Not Josh's Vermont friend the excellent houseguest, but Josh's friend's girlfriend who you consoled when she was crying over her own friendship problems.

You sound very excited about the $70 Gap dress! Maybe it is worth it, then. Sorry none of Wednesday's online shopping worked out. All those links! Going shopping in person sounds like a good idea.

Duh, I meant Tuesday's online shopping. I said Wednesday to refer today to the yesterday you meant yesterday but the yesterday you meant yesterday was Tuesday which is what I meant.

Anyway, did you not look at any more dresses online after Tuesday? There were suggestions posted late Tuesday into early Wednesday.

But maybe we don't have a proper sense of what strikes the balance you seek.

Maybe the tutorings jobs coming in now is so that you can get the $70 Gap dress.
