WARNING: There is a movie spoiler below.
Lately Alex does this thing where she asks me and Danielle for money but won't spend her own. It turns out she's decided she needs an iPad in her life and is saving for that. When we asked her why, she couldn't say other than that it's so cool. Of course my idiot boyfriend has fourteen close friends who all have them and confirmed that it is in fact awesome, cementing her love.
When I woke up this morning I realized for almost the whole second half of my life, I have never saved for anything really fun, except presents. For Alex's entire life, she's pretty much never saved for anything at all.
Yesterday though, Alex jumped on my bed first thing in the morning and announced she wanted to take us all to see Ramona and Beezus. Immediately Josh opted out. So the three of us left to see the first showing. Danielle told me after the fact that Alex paid for three children, not two and one adult to buy the tickets. The theatre was packed and I had to sit next to a stranger - a little boy who cried when the cat died and then didn't stop crying for the rest of the movie. When they had the funeral, Alex leaned over to whisper, "It's an actor cat," but the boy still didn't stop.
It was ... cute. Aside from parents there with kids, and one random grownup there by himself, I was the oldest person there I think. It was cute to see a movie that wasn't trying to like, be sensational. It's like the movie aimed to be wholesome.
When it was over we were all starving, so we headed towards a pizza place while I called Josh and asked him to meet us there. Alex told me she had no idea it felt so good to buy things for other people and asked why I don't buy her more stuff.
At our fire family dinners they always ask what we did that weekend. To be honest, we kind of never do anything. If one of us does, it's a big deal. I'm psyched for tonight - that we get to say something all three of us did. Okay to be totally honest I'm also psyched for tonight because we go to the family where they make bacon-wrapped scallops on a bbq.

I really enjoy hearing about your sisterhood. You are each amazing people. Sounds like a fun day.
So glad you all got to "do something" and had a fun time!
Great write-up.

So cute how Alex has a keen and mature insight and then follows it with adorable child-like effusiveness.
May you all continue to have fun together and may opportunities to earn money to both save for fun things for yourself and to use for fun for each other continue to come your way.
