Summer school: not always a punishment

When Josh's dad and I met up it was just for a quick cup of coffee. Sometimes I tell Josh things and then I find out later he's told his parents when they bring it up to me. It's a bit disconcerting. Hopefully he doesn't tell them any embarrassing sex things.

On Friday Tom wanted to talk to me about summer school. I'd mentioned it to Josh a while ago - that I wanted to take classes and squeeze in an extra semester somehow, and it seems like this is one of those things he told his parents. Tom explained that if I want to take summer classes, if I get a B or better in all of them, they will reimburse me all the costs, including books. I screamed yes and jumped on Tom to hug him thank you. Some random girl got all excited and was like, "Oh my god, did you just get engaged?!" Even better.

There's a limit to how many classes they'll let you take during the two summer sessions, but I bet I can squeeze in extra classes enough to graduate a semester early. So excited!

That's great! And it is so nice that your reaction was to immediately and comfortably and excitedly accept the offer. Guess Tom and Laurie found just the right gift for you!

Thank you for letting us know how your meeting with Tom went.

That's lovely! Guess you aren't in trouble ;-)

Just an fyi--are you planning to work as well over the summer? I have taught summer classes, and they are a regular 16 week semester worth of work crammed into six weeks--they are intensive and usually meet four times a week instead of 2 (or they might meet for 3-4 hour blocks twice a week, plus all the assignments). The reason you can't take more than two is because two classes in six weeks is equivalent to a full time load.

I know you are used to working hard and studying at the same time; I just wanted to bring up the point that you might want to cut back on some of your work hours over the summer.

I'm so very happy to read that you accepted his offer immediately. This is definitely the type of gift to accept without a second thought (other than gratitude).

That is soooo wonderful - and so nice of Josh's parents to do that for you. They probably see what a hard worker you are and want to reward you for all of that too. Congrats girl! Kick it!

What a wonderful, generous, well-deserved gift. I am so happy for you, and so pleased that Josh's parents are so smart and thoughtful.
Congratulations!
(And your engaged remark has me howling!)
