Juggling

Shrink: What is your priority for the summer?
Me: To bang out as much of a semester as possible, earn as much as possible
Shrink: Life is juggling right?
Me: Oh, it's metaphor time? Awesome. Sure, juggling.
Shrink: Okay. So in what way are you juggling Josh?
Me: I don't know.
Shrink: What do you have to do to juggle school?
Me: Get the grades.
Shrink: What do you have to do to juggle work?
Me: Be professional, do a good job.
Shrink: Okay, so what do you have to do to juggle Josh?
Me: ....
Shrink: Think that's how it should be?
Me: Since you said that, no.
Shrink: Okay, so how should it be?
Me: Um ... um I should be doing something to juggle Josh? Is it just me or does that sound dirty?
Shrink: It kind of does.

I thought about it all the way home.

Me: What should my priorities be for you?
Josh: ... what?
Me: Like, what is the number one thing I could do to be a good girlfriend to you?
Josh: ::nods his head towards our bedroom::
Me: I mean besides that.
Josh: Sam, this is coming out of nowhere, I don't know!
Me: Well, think about it and get back to me, okay?
Josh: Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Later:
Josh: Was today your weekly shrinking?
Me: Yeah
Josh: That explains a lot.

Shrinking and juggling. Lots of activity. I'll be interested to read what he says.

For the first time I really like your new shrink.

An additional approach might be to think about what it takes to do a good job at school and at work and how that might apply to doing a good job with Josh. Time, effort, focus, observation, attention, communication, adaptability, creativity, etc.

Let us know what Josh says and what you figure out!
