Skipping a generation

If generations are three years each. Alex wanted to go through all my clothes and try on everything she liked. She almost never gets anything new (unless Josh's mom gets involved) and most things arrive having been worn by me and Dani.

So we spent all night with my clothes spread all over the living room while Alex tried on everything to her heart's content. I am 5'8". Alex used to be short and then all of a sudden she started creeping up and now she's 5'6". It is really weird to see her wearing my stuff. My high school graduation dress is Al's favorite. It's white with huge yellow and black flowers. I loved it, but then the white faded and I couldn't brighten it and started to hate it and feel embarrassed every time I wore it.

But Alex thinks it's great, and begged me to hem it for her to wear. So I had her get me a pencil to mark the hem and she wanted it really short. Like mid-thigh short. That little shit is going to be a lawyer when she grows up - a dancing fucking lawyer. She can talk anyone into anything. Alex claimed she wanted to wear it with leggings underneath for now, then when she's taller wear it as a dress like I did, and then when she's "old and fat" wear it as a shirt with jeans. It all sounded reasonable, so I'm going to start hemming tomorrow. Hopefully Danielle didn't have grand plans for this dress.

As I have always said about my younger daughter, "She could talk a dog off a meat wagon!"

I'm so happy those sisters have you.

Sounds like a nice time. You saved money two ways! Alex got to do something entertaining with you and satisfy her desire for new clothing both without spending money.

It's great that the dress that was making you sad can make Alex happy. Hope that restores some positive feelings for you about the dress too. How was it your graduation dress when you didn't attend graduation?

It is also kind of symbolic of how you and Alex have repaired your relationship and things are well between you now, your giving her the dress that a year ago you decided to replace.

Can you have Alex help you with the hemming? It would be more free entertainment and a chance to help her improve her own sewing skills. Or maybe have her make dinner while you do the hemming.
