Charge it

Being sick sucks. Not just because I'm sick but also because normally I am either at school, at work or at Other Work or rushing from one place to the other. Now I am just laying around for the first time in decades but I barely feel well enough to take advantage of it.

In an effort to avoid squandering the day away I spent like two hours (with a three-hour nap between those two hours) catching up on calls and emails from friends. Basically I am really outgoing and social at school and show up at a party or two but other than that never have time to sit around talking to people.

It turns out all my friends already have credit cards! I thought you had to be 18. Some of them are, but a lot of us are still 17. I want a credit card too!

NO, you don't want a credit card UNLESS you know that you will pay it off every month. Credit cards are very dangerous very fast. Keep paying cash.

I second this. Credit cards are dangerous and if you cannot pay it off each month, they'll charge you late fees and finance charges. Don't go down that route. I have friends in debt beause of credit cards. Pay cash or charge very very minimal things.

I agree, Sam. But I grew up in a family of very irresponsible money. It's one of the reasons I grew up so poor. We shouldn't have been - but my parents sucked at money. On the other hand, my fiance's parents use credit cards instead of debit cards for their checking accounts. I'm wary of them, and will never own one. I've got to 24 and my credit is just fine (student loans).
