You can get a credit if you work in some kind of accounting capacity. You just have to write two papers through the semester. Oh, and you have to get the blessing of the academic adviser guy. Who is NEVER available. He has office hours. On Wednesdays he's supposed to be there until 8pm. I have e-mailed, called and shown up. A note was slid under the door. Nothing. When I e-mailed he responded with his office hours. I wrote back asking if there was a specific day/time that would be best for him. No response.
I want to graduate a semester early and am trying to pack in as many credits as possible. You have to get approved to do the internship. I don't want to go over this guy's head because he is like god in terms of getting permission for anything, and pissing him off can't be helpful. It seems like a no-brainer though, to get credit for a job already being worked. It's now been a month that I've been chasing this guy. Tonight I ran back to school after work to stalk him, and sat on the floor outside his office, doing homework until 8:45 before I gave up and went home.
Tomorrow I'm going to stalk the teacher at one of his classes. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.
Jane, are you talking about like, cheerleaders and sororities and stuff? Overall I think people are more into academics than sports here, and basketball (like St. John's) is bigger than football. There's Greek life, and there are dorms, but the dorms are like apartment buildings and aren't necessarily on a college campus with a sprawling green lawn. But I don't think homecoming (I still haven't figured out exactly what that is) and football games are what make college fun. So it really depends what she's looking to get out of college.

Is there a departmental secretary by any chance--who might be able to help?
If he doesn't respond, I'd go to the next level. Is there an accounting program chair? Or if not, maybe a dean or chancellor? You've given the guy a ton of chances already and you deserve a response and don't deserve to have your time wasted.
ditto, try the dean of students or the dean of academics (its their job to deal with exactly this kind of situation). Take copies of your previous emails showing you've tried to contact the adviser guy. Have you missed the add-drop period due to his flakiness? Or is this for next semester?
Hey girl! First time commenter.
I went to cuny. Can u sign up for class without his permission? Sometimes even though you need to
go through him, you'll be able to sign up
for the class. (but he will probably be the one to give you the grade for the class). Also you most likely won't be able
to get credit for work that u get paid for so you should keep this in mind. .
If I was u Id stalk/harass the crap put of him until u get answers. Or go to ur academic counselor for advice (if u tell them u can't get in touch with this guy, they may be able to help)
good luck!!!
