What I know

  1. Nepotism just gets you an interview, not a job.
  2. Unless the person providing the interview is your direct relative.
  3. You can wear the same suit as long as you change your shirt for the second interview.
  4. Which I will. Tomorrow. Not that I'm nervous.
  5. Because I ironed the second shirt. So no need to be nervous.
  6. Except I am. Because I still feel like wearing a suit makes me look like a box.
  7. Why are there shoulder pads inside the shoulders?
  8. Also I know that I must get over feeling like it looks ridiculous to be wearing a business suit. As if I have any business doing anything businessy.
It is between me and one other person. Apparently I am not the only one with some nepotism. Also I am not the only one very late to the getting-a-fancy-summer-job game. Which makes me feel good to not be alone. Other people have parents. I have the entire internet. I think we know who wins.

This is a list of all the things that scare me:
  1. Something will happen to make me late.
  2. My stupid suit will break or rip.
  3. Oh my god or it will break and I won't notice!
  4. An obscure accounting question will get asked that I won't know the answer to.
  5. Or when I give the answer they'll laugh and say they don't want to hire someone so nerdy as to know the answer.
It wouldn't really be, but I feel like it would be helpful to drink a bottle of wine to relax and chill out.

Good luck for tomorrow!! You will be amazing and if you dont get it you will go on more interview untill you do get something!!
Well done on realising one of many VERY important lesson in life - Nepotism does ONLY get you the interview in most cases, its up to you to be ther right candidate and with your work ethic they would be insane not to take you!!

Instead of thinking of all the possible things that could go wrong, how about visualizing what it would be like after you've had a bottle of wine?
And if the suit breaks or rips, then there's something else to talk about in the interview leaving less time for some obscure accounting question.

Good luck, sending good thoughts your way!

If you get asked a question that you don't know the answer to...admit it! Let them know that you are interested enough to look into it and then go look it up! Next time they talk to you, you can bring it up.

Knock 'em dead!

Good luck! If you haven't already, email a thank you note to the interviewer immediately after the interview. (And the admin who set up the interview, if there was one.) (I am totally serious. Do it. It will make a difference. Get the interviewer's card off their desk or ask the admin for their email addy, then a short email saying thanks for taking the time to interview me, after our discussion I am positive that I would be a good fit for this position because x and y, please contact me if you have further questions, thanks again, Sam.)(And a thank you to the person whose nepotism who got you the interview too.)

You'll do great. Think of the suit as magic accounting armor that holds all the answers.

One of the best interviews I ever had was a phone interview. The call came just after I had gotten out of the shower at the gym and I was stitch stark naked except for the skimpy wet towel. I got a second interview and the job.
In any interview after that, I always imagine all of us in a gym locker room, stitch stark naked except for the skimpy wet towel. AS a 90's saying goes, levels the playing ground.
Kind of funny, kind of corny, but it helps me get over the jitters.
After awhile, interviewing become a skill on selling yourself. You are a bright strong young woman. You'll be fine.
(And consider that you wouldn't want anyone who wouldn't want you.)
Ditto on sending good thoughts your way.
