It happened again

When I got home from work, Alex and Lily were in the kitchen, making baked ziti and garlic bread and a salad. Once again, Lily had been playing in the hallway. Alex claimed it was for a long time, so she knocked on their door and when nobody answered she brought Lily in.

There is no way this is kosher. Once again, a note was put on their door. Lily (very messily) ate dinner with us. I hope she doesn't have any allergies.

Maybe Lily's parents are overwhelmed or something. If that's the case they could cut back on something to hire help with her. It's hard to understand her, but we're pretty sure she goes to special school so if that's right they have a few hours of break from her. Ugh.

Is there a building manager that you could talk to? It's unbelievable that they are leaving their child unattended. The first time they presumably thought you were watching her but what about yesterday? That's horrible. :(

Call child services.

Call protective services. Seriously. Leaving your child with people you don't know is one thing, leaving them in a hallway in an enormous city alone for hours is reprehensible.
Lily deserves better.

The next time she is out in the hallway and no one is at home call CPS or the police non-emergency number. Maybe the Mom drinks and then naps and doesn't answer the door or takes a long bath. Either way, the "hallway" is not a daycare and leaving her with strangers is not acceptable, even if you guys are good people. They have not bothered to find out who you are and what kind of people you are before dumping their special needs child on you! We have a 19 yr old Downs kid in our neighborhood and the older parents just dump her at the pool all day every day during the Summer. She then stalks other families begging for attention. I understand needing a break but this is ridiculous! You have enough sisters to parent!

Call 311 and explain the situation. Don't feel even a tiny bit guilty--you are protecting this kid. You can be anonymous if you want, but report exactly what happened. What is happening is neglect and it's grounds for removing a child into foster care.

Time to call CPS. That is criminal behavior.
