Lazy Sundays

Today was a day of nothingness. Jackie slept over and we stayed up talking forever. Slept late, watched a lot of tv, ate a lot of food. The washing machine is broken, so after Jackie left my sister and I hauled our laundry to a public laundromat. There was another girl there around my age, reading an iPad.

Her clothes were done before ours, and she dumped them from a dryer into a paper bag. Those two didn't seem to match. I think of people who have an iPad as being rich. Rich enough to not haul their clothes around in a paper bag, and rich enough to not need a laundromat.

Aren't lazy Sundays the best? Guess the girl wanted an iPad bad enough to do without other things. Or perhaps it was a gift. Everytime I find myself in a laundromat I think "Aren't I past the age where I should be in one of these places?" But sometimes life just happens that way. Hope you get your washer fixed soon.

Maybe her washing machine is broken too. Maybe she doesn't have a proper laundry bag because she doesn't usually need one.

So glad you are continuing to spend time with Jackie. Sounds like you are doing a great job being gregarious and cultivating friendships.

How are summer classes going?

I know people who live on the street and have iPhones. It a life line to family, help, the world and technology. Don't unestimate people. :)

I think you're used to the extremes of rich vs. poor. There's a lot of in between, especially at your age where a young adult may be forging out on their own for the first time but still have some support (or gifts) from family back home. NYC seems like a place where there's a lot of in between.
